I left it on the full 30 minutes. The result is pale blonde, with a little grey on the ends (which I went ahead and cut off). It's not "Gwen-white" but at least I can go out in public without a hat! The first time it turned yellow, the second time even MORE yellow. Now, I am trying to figure out if I can put a pale ash blonde or something over to cover the yellow.
